Deconstructing news texts

Analysis of BBC and Channel 4 news:

In the BBC the video shots, that occurred were medium shots of the news readers as each one reads out stories out loud and followed by individual medium shots of each person. Also there were wide shots of the place of the story being reported. Also the way the story is reported involves voice overs being read over video clips. Finally in the video shots editing occurred and special effects are added such as the opening sequence involves red images and subtitles. Also bright lighting occurred on the reporter in the studio. Also as the headlines are read out a strip of text appears saying the story's name which are in white and red colours. Also shows in and out of the reporter in set of the story being reported, so therefore shows the reporter in the beginning of the story and ankors out of the story.

Secondly the Audio that's in the show has English accidents and with the natural sound of where the story being reported. The opening sounds of shows has up and tempo beat to it.
Also the audience ranges from 18-60 yrs, as it involves wide range stories and interests for example reporters on the recession and then reports on the sport. Also then the weather which is relevant to all age groups.

The analysis of channel 4 is the conventions are quite similar but has some differences as in channel 4 in the video shots the open sequence involves moving images of the actual stories about to be reported. Also in the begging of the show as the stories are read out involves just medium shot of one reporter who is standing up dressed in a suit, also the shot shows more of his body. Also the studio it self involves more graphics such as the studio is in dark blue background and when the stories are read out there is a screen in the background showing an image of the story involves with a subtitle of its name. Also in the studio the actual interviews take place which are either face to face in the same room in a wide shot. or the reporter sits down in the studio and looks at a screen with the interview which is in a close up. The audio involves again well spoken English accients of the reporters but the voice change with the people involved in the story. Also the opening sequence music involves more high tempo music
and again the audience more of a selection but may a little younger from the age range of 18-40 yrs as the studio and the whole production of the show involves alot of graphics. Also may involve more political and educational people such as university students etc, as the show is a hour long a day and goes into alot of depth of the story and may in some way trying to teach people about the story and issues as they have alot of interviews with doctors , politicians etc.

The institution of channel 4 news and BBC news:

The budget of channel 4 news and BBC is controlled by ITN at 70 million pounds. Also the former director of channel 4 is Mark Thompson and the director BBC is Helen boaden.

Also the distribution channel 4 is the first publisher- broadcaster stations in the world. The show is produced by other companies , such as Stipulation. Also the distribution of BBC news is distributed by 600 channels, 27,ooo hrs of content and with 2.6 million last year. Also distributed by other channels such as BBC news 24, BBC Parliament and BBC three.

Also the regulation issues of both BBC and Channel 4 news there are watershed at 9.00pm so before this time there can not be any rude, sexual scenes, swear word to be heard or watched. Also not to promote advertising and also to have permission to film and interview people. Also to warn viewers if the the story involves very graphic and shocking scenes and also to warn people id there will be bright lights that's aimed at epileptic people.

Also the marketing strategies for channel 4 includes stranded programming of 4 mation of innovation animation. Also the ones for BBC is ads, bill boards and charity events.

MORE PLANNING:

My planning that progressed is that I have decided on the following things my audience will be between 18-25yrs and the time the show will be aired is at 6pm. There will be images of clissold park, swimming pool, restaurants and bars etc of the main stories.

Also the logo will consist of a clock with images of the chosen stories in light blue around it with the clock aiming to 6pm with the number six circled in dark blue. The clock will be white with numbers in black and also an arrow pointed at the number six in black colour. The clock be circled in light blue almost lit up and glowing. Also finally with the words dagger on one side of the clock and head the other side in dark blue colour and light blue background.

Also the stories I will do will involve local news surrounding stoke newington. The synopsis consists of stories firstly involving clissold park where in the farm wild animals were mixed up with a normal order, ordered by them where they instead got tigers and more wild animals. The secondly the stoke Newington leisure center has another building extension added to it including another swimming pool and restaurant. Thirdly the restaurant Retro foods have been reported having food poisoned 150 people. Fourthly the bars in stoke newington are outraged the alcohol age for dring is now 21yrs old and losing money in bars such as the Co2 bar. Fifthly the is a one million scheme for the whole stoke newington to be cleaned to clean up all the chewing gums off pavements.
Also my programme is created for social groups such as people who are students who are interested in education and want to know whats going on in there community. Also people who like an active social life such as drinking, eating out with friends and like sports and exercise. This has an impact on my target audience as this relates to young and active people who like to get out. Also more specific at targeting people in education rather than people who who are unemployed and not doing anything with there life. Also my target audience relates back channel 4 news's target audience as they like to educate people in depth of the story which relates to students.

Ancillary Texts

MY PLANNING:

My news programme will be called Dagger head. The colours that I will use are black, dark blue, light blue and the subtitles in dark blue. I will also have high tempo music drum beat. My Target audience will be from 14-25yrs, so a young and teenage audience. The movement I will have is tracking and panning and when the stories are read out will have medium -two shots.

The things I need to do:
is include voice overs for my stories of Stoke Newington school and main stories of the swimming pool, clissold park, restaurants and bars. Also construct interviews, areas of filming and also title sequence planning that as well. Such as planning the images, colours, use of effects and fonts.

Secondly I need to plan the written information for the hyperlinked pages of the main stories that my news programme consists of which will be for the homepage. Also plan the layout for the hyper linked pages. Another page saying how the company started up and the information of the last est competitions.

THE RESEARCH AND SKILLS I LEARNT:

Thirdly the research I did showed me the stories of Stoke Newington school. The things I found out were people had good and bad things to say about the use of the new building in the school. Which was the main story. Also people had problems with the computer system and couldn't log in. However the good news was sixth formers reported having a girls sixth form football team. I had extracted interviews from getting these stories, names, Quotes, and I had gotten these stories from a mixture a audience , so that I could get a mixture of points of view.

Also I had done research on News programmes such as BBC, ITV and Sky news to find out what the conventions of a news programme consists of. The things I found out were most of the programmes had iconic up and tempo music in the opening sequences, with the use of two colours which were mostly bright and iconic images . For example the use of the clock showing the time of when the news is about to be reported with the use of a bright blue colour with bright lights be reflected off it. Secondly the other conventions I found was the positioning of the stories reported was different for the local and national news of the same stories. Thirdly when the stories are being reported they are reported by the use of voice overs over video clips. Fourthly the headlines are read quick with a timing of 2 mins and When read in detail develop to 5 mins. Finally the movement of the camera in the programme is tracking at first and also panning. Also when the stories are read out there are medium and medium-two shots of the reporters.

Finally my music magazine that I did in AS level allowed me to use photo shop which helped me to me to make my magazine by adding colours such as Red and silver and also use bright fonts with titles that have effects on them such as outer glow and shadow. Also the pages software allowed me to use columns and add effects to the pictures by fading them. Te skills I have learnt from the effects , layout ect will help with my web page with the hyperlinked pages look better and professional and eye catching.

The music magazine has taught me about the conventions of a music magazine and who the target audience(TA) is aimed at and that the audience is very important and that my TA will be important for my news programme for example if the news is biased or neutral. Also the taught me that presentation is important and which i will make sure that my hyper linked pages look professional and my news programme. Also finally the use of colours in the music magazine was consistent so when doing the news programme I will have consistency and so its not so dis attracting.
